Community Foundation needs your help to identify region’s outstanding teachers

Henrico, Va. Jan. 17, 2019 – Who is the special teacher in your life? The REB Awards for Teaching Excellence provide a tangible, public way to recognize outstanding teachers in Henrico County Public Schools – and give them the means to continue growing. The Community Foundation’s yearly awards identify, recognize and support teaching excellence in the Richmond area. Honorees receive professional development grants of $4,000 to $12,000, given to teachers who have distinguished themselves by their inspiring classroom performance.

Through a nomination process, approximately 15 outstanding teachers are selected each year to receive cash grants to support professional development activities.

Nominations are invited from parents, students, educators and the community at large. Award recipients have earned graduate degrees, climbed mountains, traced their ancestors and met peers from around the world – all to reignite their own passion for learning and to pass it on to their students.

Nominations must be made online. A letter in support of the nomination must be written by another individual and submitted online with the nomination.

Who:The Community Foundation invites nominations from students, parents, colleagues, school staff and administrators (except for the school principal), and the community at large.

When: Nominations and letters of support must be submitted by Feb. 25 at 5 p.m.

How: Nominations must be submitted through the Community Foundation’s website. For detailed instructions, eligibility criteria and a link to the nomination portal, please visit https://www.cfrichmond.org/Grantseekers/REB-Awards-for-Teaching-Excellence#123671-award-amount.

Eggs-citing Reading News!

We had so much fun hatching chicks last year that we decided to do it again!  And of course our chicks will need names.  So to decide who will win the honor of naming a chick we are having a reading contest.  The class that reads the most time between now and the day the chicks hatch (around May 1st) will win the honor of naming a chick and having a birthday party complete with ice cream and fun activities.  Reading at home and at shcool; reading alone or together all count.  To record your time just go to tinyurl.com/chicksread .  We are so eggs-cited about this eggs-traordinary event!!

Ginjer Clarke Wows Ridge

author with audienceThanks to support from the PTA our whole school got to meet the awesome author Ginjer Clarke!  We spent the last few weeks reading her books during library and language arts time.  It was a real treat to hear how a real author works.  Fourth and fifth grades even got to do a little writing with her.  We all learned some really cool facts about animals.
