Prior knowledge for the win!!! Before 1st grade learned about Chief Powhatan, Mrs. Raonaq interviewed Ms. Blackburn about what it means to be a leader!! Understanding the role of the leader at our school will help students connect the word “leadership” to different figures in history! 📕📖

Kindergarten had special guest teachers last week!! Members of the Environment and Vector Control Team at Henrico Public Works came to teach us all about MOSQUITOES! 🦟 We learned all about their body parts, their life cycle, and how to prevent them at your home! If you see a K student, ask them about how to keep those pesky mosquitoes out of your yard! 🐞🐛

1st graders in Ms. Adair’s class are learning about past and present! After comparing houses in both the past and present, the students did a STEAM activity where they designed and built a house in the future! 🏠 🤓🔮

Next week is the PTA CHANGE CHALLENGE!!! Students are encouraged to bring in spare change and dollars to support their House and the PTA! 💰The winning house will win a 🎉PARTY🎉 sponsored by the PTA! Read the directions in the post to see how you can participate! Five Houses, One Family!!!

2nd grade students in Ms. Gonzalez’ class completed their first research project!! They collected information then made posters to teach the class about severe weather 🌪️⚡️❄️

Yesterday, Ms. Scheid & Mrs. Raonaq organized a visit from CBS 6 Head Meteorologist, Zach Daniels, for the 4th graders! He taught them all about how meteorologists track the weather, what his job is like, and taught them how hail, sleet, and freezing rain are formed.  ⛈️⚡️🌡️And guess what?!? Ridge was featured on the NEWS! 📰 Such a cool experience for the Roadrunners :)

Today’s is Coaches Appreciation Day!! We are SO thankful for all they do for our school and their dedication to advancing the knowledge of students and staff!! You guys are the best!! 🤩✨

1st grade coding wizards!! 🧙the 1st grade team worked with the ILC coach to incorporate the Code & Go Mice to their unit on weather to review for their first test! Students find this activity very fun and engaging, making studying a breeze! 😌

Last week, students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade got to attend a performance by the Richmond Symphony Brass Quintet in our very own auditorium!!! It was such a great experience for students and staff! 🎺🪊🎷

The cutest pumpkins in the patch!! 🎃 Kindergarten had the best time exploring the Hanover Vegetable Farm and learning about the pumpkin life cycle!! 🍁

3rd grade got to get out in nature and enjoy one of Richmond’s most beautiful parks, Maymont!! 🌷🌿🌎 we really enjoy our RVA field trips!!

Ms. Scheid’s class is mastering Virginia geography by identifying the bordering states, regions, and waterways of Virginia. The floor map and the splat hands make it even more fun! 🗺️ 🤩

Ms. Myrtetus’ first graders were hard at work!! They are counting and comparing numbers and building foundational skills 🤓

Be on the lookout for ROYGBV! ☔️ 🌈 Mrs. Biller’s 5th graders made wanted posters for the rainbow man himself because they’re on the hunt! The goal of the lesson is to practice drawing the visible spectrum from the longest wavelength (red) to the shortest wavelength (violet). Let us know if you see him! 👀

We are SO thankful for our incredible principal, Sara Blackburn! She cares so much about the staff, students and the building in general. The Roadrunners are so lucky to have her as our leader! TEACHER OF THE YEAR ALERT!! 🚨 our amazing 3rd grade teacher, Elizabeth Daly, was chosen as the Teacher of the Year for the 26-27 school year!! There are a million reasons why Ms. Daly qualifies for this award and she makes Ridge a better place every single day! We are so proud of her! If you see her, give her a big congratulations!! 🎉

1st graders celebrated Apple Day this month! Their activities tied to science units about changes over time and the fall season. They made neat crafts, delicious apple sauce and tied in graphing it and mathematics! Fall fun! 🍎 🍏
